Frequently asked questions about reduced visibility
What are the risks of working in dark spaces/places?
There is an increased risk of accidents during all activities when visibility is poor or you are not easily visible.
Being struck by a vehicle and collisions between vehicles are examples of common accidents. Other examples include falls, cuts and crushing injuries.
Have adequate lighting suited to the purpose (illuminated work area) and increase the visibility of the individual. Do this by ensuring you use appropriate personal protective equipment, headlamp, flashlight, reflectors and more.
For a workplace to be safe, it is important to ensure you have the right lighting and the right personal protective equipment.
What do I need to consider?
All high-visibility clothing must be certified in accordance with EN-20471.
What high-visibility classes are there?
There are three different high-visibility classes: Class 1, Class 2, Class 3. Class 3 is the highest class with the greatest fluorescent (e.g. neon yellow or orange color) fabric surface.
NOTE! High visibility class 2 is the highest class when it comes to pants.
Which high-visibility class should I choose?
Your employer is responsible for informing you of the class to be used at your workplace based on their risk assessment.
